Yumart variety has been created by FSBI ARIR together with SRI TRIA. For the Volga-Vyatka and Middle Volga regions of Russia the variety has been developed that combines high productivity with high seed quality and resistance to various diseases. Since 2012 it has been included in the State Register of protected varieties (RF patent №6454) and approved for production.
Variety pedigree: the variety has been created by hybridization of Lyra and Ural varieties.
Botanical characteristics. The height of the plant is average , 80-118 cm. The stem has some anthocyanin coloring. The cotyledons are of medium length , they are wide. The anthocyanin coloration of the hypocotyl is weak. The leaf is green with no anthocyanin. The leaf is of medium length, the leaf is wide. The wax coating on the upper side of the leaf is average. The number of leaf segments is average. The length of the leaf stalk (lat. petiolus) is average. The development level of the leaf segments is moderate. The leaf margin serration is average. The petals are yellow, the length and width indices are average. The peduncle (pedicel) is long. The flowering time is early. The pod (without the beak) is of medium length. The beak of the pod is average. The seeds are round and black. 1000 seeds weight is 2,6-4,2 g.
Biological features. The variety is mid-ripening , the vegetation period is 89 days. It is resistant to lodging and seed shattering. The variety is characterized by a high degree of adaptation to the agro-climatic conditions of the Volga-Vyatka and Middle Volga regions of Russia.
Its susceptibility to Alternaria and Peronosporos is average - at the level of the standard (Ratnik variety). It is resistant to Fusarium. The variety is highly damaged by cruciferous flea beetles and by rape blossom beetle.
Competitiveness. Due to its high productivity , adaptability and its seed quality variety “Yumart” is quite competitive in the Volga-Vyatka and Middle Volga regions of Russia, where this variety has been added in the State Register.
Main advantages. With high yields, high oil and seed quality, this variety is oriented for mechanical harvesting. The variety is recommended for cultivation for seeds.
In the tests conducted by Tatar Agricultural Research Institute (CSI 2007-2009) the variety had a seed yield of 2.19 t / ha that exceeded the standard variant index (Ratnik variety ) by an average of 0.26 t / ha or 13.0%. The maximum yield of 3.11 t / ha was obtained in 2009.
Variety type "00". The oil contains 0.02-0.10% of erucic acid, the content of glucosinolates in the seed is 0,41-0,52% (9,6-12,2 mmol / g). The content of crude fat in the seeds is on the average 42.8% (3.1% above the standard), the content of protein in the seeds is 26.1% (0.5% higher than the standard).
The commercial value of the variety is in its high seed yield, as in its high oil and seed quality, its resistance to major diseases, its technology of cultivation and harvesting.
